Address: ul. Graniczna 2 , 72-510 Wolin
It was built on the island of Ostrów in the waters of the Szczecin Lagoon. Opened on April 7, 2008 by Tomasz Wojtczak, president of the Wolin-Jomsborg-Wineta Center of the Slavs and Vikings Association, which works for the development and promotion of Wolin - in particular through the construction and promotion of the museum. The open-air museum consists of reconstructions of residential and craft buildings from the early Middle Ages - from the 9th to the 11th century. You can see in it how the everyday life of old people could look like, how they lived and worked. From time to time, shows of ancient crafts and staging of medieval warfare take place here. Every year there is a Festival of Slavs and Vikings organized by the mentioned company. It always takes place in the summer and attracts several thousand participants and tens of thousands of tourists. This is the largest event of this type in our part of Europe. Its biggest attraction is the great battle, in which several hundred warriors participate. The open-air museum houses: a hut of a miner, an amber craftsman, a skinsman, a potter, a glazier, a deer, a jeweler, a fisherman, scribes, a bookbinding workshop as well as an exchange office and a merchant's warehouse. Inside the huts of various designs, you can see replicas of furniture, tools and everyday objects from 1000 years ago. The buildings are surrounded by ramparts and part of the palisade with a gate and a tower. There is also a specially prepared "historic" playground, where children will find unusual equipment on other playgrounds. In addition, children can change into Viking costumes and fight with wooden swords. For an additional fee, you can also take a Viking boat ride. The museum has been filmed several times mainly for Polish Television and History Channel.
