The oldest of the forts in Świnoujście is the Angel Fort built in 1854-58, named because of the resemblance to the Roman mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian and the later papal seat in Rome. Angel. The fort has a three-storey rotunda crowned with a terrace and an observation tower. The Angel's Fort is another building that makes up the Świnoujście Sea Fortress (which consisted of 4 forts), acting as an artillery and observation point. The fort was manned by a crew of 100 - walkers and artillerymen. During World War I, the fort lost its importance as a military facility. During World War II he served as an air observation post for German forces. After the war, it was taken over by the Russians, until 1992 it was a point of aerial observation and communication with the ships of the Soviet Fleet. Currently, the building is being renovated and serves not only as a museum but has become a cultural institution where you can learn about the history of three epochs: Prussian, German and Soviet. As a cultural institution in the fort, you can see numerous exhibitions of contemporary painting, photography, sculpture, listen to concerts, participate in poetry evenings or watch demonstrations of medieval knighthood fights. There are also bonfires, barbecues, you can drink tea, coffee, wine or mead in the original fireplace room. The Angel's Fort is located on the left bank of Świnoujście on the island of Usedom. Worth seeing: - a defensive gate with firing ranges for guns and rifles - two pairs of two-sided armored doors, installed for chemical weapons defense - elevator shaft for transporting ammunition to the upper floors of the redoubt - spiral staircase in the staircase, leading from the ground floor to the terrace of the fort.
