At the beginning of the 20th century, until the outbreak of World War II, many artillery buildings were built in Świnoujście to protect the waterfront from anti-aircraft. The artillery complex "Oststrand", located on the eastern side of the city next to the beach, is one of the most interesting and possible to visit. A set of bunkers with ammunition chambers and battery technical rooms have survived to this day. A battery command post operated in a separate shelter. The remaining anti-aircraft protection facilities are located in the Warszowo district, however their condition does not allow visiting from the inside. Further batteries for waterfront protection are located in the Przytór district and behind the Karsibór ferry crossing on the Mielin peninsula. For those interested in fortification buildings and the history of World War II, they are a great attraction.
